Foreign courier in Romania: documents you need if you're from outside the EU
Updated · 2 min read
Many couriers in Cluj and Iași come from Nepal, India or other countries outside the EU. You can work legally, but the rules are stricter than for Romanians. Here's what matters.
The basic documents
- Valid passport.
- Valid Romanian residence permit.
- Work permit (aviz de muncă) or another legal right to work.
- Romanian bank account.
- Smartphone with mobile data.
The right to work matters most
A residence permit alone doesn't always mean you can work anywhere. Your right to work can be tied to a specific employer or type of activity. So before anything else, I look at your documents with you and tell you honestly whether and how you can start.
If your permit expires soon, tell me from the start. It's easier to plan than to stop halfway.
What I ask you on the phone
With these answers I can tell you right away whether you can start now, what's still missing, or whether it's better to wait until your documents are sorted.
- What type of residence permit you have and until when it's valid.
- Whether you have a work permit (aviz de muncă) and which employer it's issued for.
- Whether you already have a Romanian bank account.
- Which city you live in and which vehicle you'd like to deliver with.
If you are a student
If your residence permit is for studies, the rules on how much and how you may work are different from a work permit. Tell me from the start that you're a student and we'll check together what applies to you before you sign anything.
You don't need to speak Romanian
The Bolt Food, Wolt and Glovo courier apps work in English. You learn the addresses and street names quickly, and the in-app map guides you step by step. A few basic Romanian words help at restaurants, but they're not a requirement.
We talk in your language
The site is in Romanian, English, Nepali and Hindi. On the phone we can speak English. In the form you choose the language you'd like me to contact you in.
Beware of middlemen who ask for money
Don't pay anyone to make you a courier account or to "rent" someone else's account. It's illegal, and the account can be closed at any time, along with your money. With me you pay nothing, and the account is in your own name.
